The representation of mythical creatures has influenced the shape and decoration of ceramics in many parts of Asia. Our panel of experts - Jackie Menzies, John Yu, Michaela Russell and Ann Proctor - will help us explore the significance of these mythical motifs.

TAASA VISIT TO APT11, QAGOMA, BRISBANE
Seventy artists, collectives and projects from more than 30 countries will feature in this 11th iteration of the Asia Pacific Triennial at QAGOMA, Brisbane. TAASA Qld will host this weekend event designed for TAASA members from across Australia. Included will be a full day tour of the exhibition, a celebratory dinner with entertainment on Saturday evening and a specially designed seminar program for TAASA participants on Sunday morning.

From Sarong to Sari: Rabindranath Tagore and the Batik of Java
Following his 1927 visit to Indonesia, Rabindranath Tagore - the great Indian writer and
artist - introduced the technique of Javanese batik to West Bengal. It evolved into a
significant cottage industry, nowadays practised by several thousand people. The talk will
be illustrated with batik saris made at Santiniketan in West Bengal.

TAASA MEMBERS PREVIEW OF BONHAMS AUCTION
On 2 and 3 April Bonhams is offering an important collection of Chinese textiles and official ceramics, the most comprehensive survey of later Chinese textiles to come to the market in Australia. It includes more than 40 formal and informal gowns, some attributed to the Empress Dowager Cixi’s wardrobe, and countless dress accessories including fan cases, purses, collars, hats, shoes, rank badges.
