Monday 6 March 2023 The Origins of the Temple of the Golden Pavilion: The Kitayama Temple-Palace Complex in 14th-century Kyoto Matthew Stavros The Kinkaku ‘Golden Pavilion’ is Kyoto’s most celebrated UNESCO World Heritage property, originally built within a much larger complex, Kitayama Villa.
This presentation will demonstrate that the villa was a vast temple-palace complex built to resemble a Chinese-style imperial capital.
