18 February 2023 ‘Made in China’ Symposium Over 40 members and guests packed the Annie Wyatt Room at the National Trust for this symposium where Jackie Menzies, Dr John Yu and Carl Wantrup each provided illuminating insights into some of the lesserknown aspects of Chinese export trade. Jackie had the enormous task of giving us an introductory overview of the Chinese export market from its earliest days of industrial scale production in the 9th c to the present day: as she said, a subject not easily covered in 30 minutes.
However, with excellent images and maps, we were taken on a global journey to highlight the breadth and scope of Chinese trade ceramics which even stretched to a punchbowl held in the Mitchell Library in Sydney.
