Min-Jung Kim A ncient Buddhist stone statues known as the ‘Five Hundred Arhats’ were unearthed in 2001 and 2002 at the Changnyeongsa Temple site in Gangwon-do province in South Korea.

They are thought to have been made during the Goryeo (918-1392) and early Joseon (1392-1897) dynasties.

To introduce these extraordinary works to Australia, a selection is on loan from the Chuncheon National Museum of Korea for display at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney from 2 December 2021 to 15 May 2022. Excavation of the arhats...
