Chaitanya Sambrani T he Rmyana is considered the first epic in Indian tradition and has come to be central to religious belief, moral precepts and political convictions in much of the subcontinent.

Its origins are debated, with varying contentions placing its composition (or compilation) across a millennial span ranging between the 5th centuries BCE and CE. Vlmki sees the hunter killing a pair of Kraunch birds, from the Shngri Rmyana, Pahari, mid-18th century.
