I n November 2019 a fresh presentation of the Asian collection at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) was revealed in two new exhibition galleries.
Moving the collection after nearly 20 years provided an opportunity to explore it within a recently developed thematic framework that brought together works from different dates and geographic locations.
Four broad themes Devotion, People, Nature and Time and Place – present Asian art curators with a creative opportunity to delve into the bounty of the Asian collection, re-present favourite works in new contexts and bring out items that have rarely, if ever, been displayed. Devotion is the largest display in the new galleries, reflecting the breadth and depth of this aspect of the Asian collection...
