Jackie Menzies T he only work I know to be by Gulammohammed Sheikh in a public collection in Australia is a tapestry woven by the Victorian Tapestry Workshop after an original digital collage Sheikh created in 2003 as part of his major Mappamundi Suite.

He was inspired to create the suite after he came across a postcard image of the famous Ebstorf map of c 1300 in the British Library shop in 2002.

Mappae mundi ­ literally document the social, cultural and political landscape, not the topographic landscape...
