Iain Clark The annual Hingyiu Mok Mandarin language lecture on 29 July was once again well attended, with every seat taken.

Professor Lizhong Ling, Head of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy at the Shanghai Museum and doctoral supervisor at the China Academy of Art presented a detailed analysis of two paintings and one calligraphy work attributed to the late Ming dynasty painter, scholar, calligrapher and art historian Dong Qichang (15551636).

Professor Ling demonstrated how scholars today differentiate between works of art to establish authenticity. Professor Ling compared contemporaneous paintings and calligraphy from the Shanghai Museum, Palace Museum in Beijing, the Taipei National Palace Museum and a Japanese museum collection...
