Monday 4 June 2018 Jakuch’s pleasure garden and beyond Wayne Crothers, Curator of Japanese Art at the National Gallery of Victoria and curator of the recent successful Hokusai exhibition, will talk on the long neglected Japanese Edo period artist It Jakuch(1716-1800) who over that past 15 years has become a superstar of the Japanese art loving public, manga artists and designers.

Wayne will discuss the artist’s career, popular appeal, innovative approaches and the NGV’s unusual Jakuch painting that depicts the artist’s idealistic sculpture garden project, still found at Sekih-ji Temple in the hills southeast of Kyoto. Monday 2 July 2018 Japanese gardens as art John McBride will give us a deeper appreciation of the history of Japanese gardens and help us learn to view them as a work of art.
