Inside a Collector’s Head 10 March 2016 Forty-two members and guests packed the room to listen to our US visitor, Dr Shirley Mueller, speak on a new area of research – the science behind big buying decisions.
She outlined two main factors which drive collectors: neuro economics where active neurons in the brain seek happiness and pleasure, and behavioural economics in which anchoring, sunk costs and flattery play important roles in purchases. Shirley applied these factors to her own quest to build one of the largest private US holdings of Chinese export tea wares.
