Chinese Museum study day 30 September 2016 A large TAASA contingent, as well as members of the Embroiderers Guild, participated in this event organised by Margot Yeomans.
Professor Antonia Finnane of the University of Melbourne gave a brief introduction covering symbols, rebuses and homonyms in Chinese art, as well as the history of Han and Manchu Chinese clothing styles.
Assisted by the Museum’s registrar of collections Adil Soh-Lim and a volunteer conservator Bethany Holland, Professor Finnane showed us a number of Chinese costumes from the Museum’s collection not on public display and spoke about the history, techniques and symbolism used in the decoration of each...
