Pamela Walker with Ron Walker O ne corner of our house is given over to about a dozen wooden figures of Filipino household saints of varying sizes, the fruits of two generations of collecting.

Most are on shelves; two statues of the Virgin standing on their crescent moons, robes fluttering, hang on the wall.

It doesn’t really look like a shrine, more like a gathering of individuals, each focused on some intense inner life, but nevertheless also gazing directly out at the world around them...
