JAPAN The National Treasure Ashura and Masterpieces from Kofukuji Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo 31 March – 7 June 2009 The National Treasure Ashura commemorates the 1300th anniversary of Kofukuji in Nara.
Tenpyo era (729-49) sculpture, many of them national treasures, will be displayed together for the first time outside the temple, including the hachibushu statues (eight classes of divine protectors') and the10 great disciples Shah Abbas fostered good relations with Europe and ushered in a golden period in the arts, commissioning beautiful works of art and grand architecture.
The exhibition will feature luxurious gold-ground carpets, exquisite Chinese porcelains, illustrated manuscripts, watercolour paintings, metalwork, beautiful silks and examples of the work of the famous calligrapher Ali Riza `Abbasi...
