This presentation celebrates Cambodian village weaving which has persevered despite challenges due in the past to war, and in the present to the drawcard of urban garment factories. It focuses on its continuing role in the economy of village life and the dedication of the people who preserve its practice. This is due in no small part to those NGOs and individuals who have fostered the survival of village weaving, leading to this skill’s recognition on the UNESCO Inventory of Intangible Heritage. The presentation concludes with an absorbing video of weavers in their villages speaking for themselves while demonstrating their skills and commitment to these venerable traditions in Cambodia today.
