Navigating the Past and Writing
The 69 socially and culturally diverse projects that comprise APT10 reveal artists reimaging cultural knowledge and practices to meet the contemporary conditions we face in the world together. The varied materials, techniques and cultural contexts of art-making that flourish across the Asia-Pacific region, from pottery to weaving, embroidery and painting, allude to historical precedents while imbued with contemporary inflections. This talk will focus on a selection of the challenging Asian works on show in APT10, presenting artists from across the Asia Pacific region.
Tarun Nagesh is Curatorial Manager of Asian and Pacific Art at QAGOMA. Tarun currently leads the curatorial team on APT10 and has helped deliver three previous Asia Pacific Triennials. In his time at QAGOMA he has curated more than fifteen exhibitions and projects including ‘Problem-Wisdom: Thai Art in the 1990s’ (2017-18), ‘The Long Story’ (2017-18), ‘Indo Pop: Contemporary Indonesian Art’ (2016-17), ‘Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion’ (2015-16), ‘Hanga: Modern Japanese Prints’ (2014-15) and ‘Ah Xian: Heavy Wounds’ (2014). Tarun has published widely and taken on appointments including currently as a Board Member of the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) as well as State Representative for The Asian Arts Society of Australia (TAASA).
