Djinn stone, Petra
Arabia and its deserts are said to be the home of the Djinn, spirits of ‘smokeless fire’ created by Allah as intermediaries between realms of the human and angelic. However, as Islam spread throughout the heartlands of antiquity, the ancient Near East and beyond, the Djinn adopted new characteristics, stories and material culture. This talk looks at the roles Djinn play in the religion, spiritualism and arts of the Islamic world.
