A small group is invited to the home of Mrs Joan Gunn, an important collector of Japanese and Chinese textiles.
After many years living in Japan, Mrs Gunn returned to Melbourne and opened Japan Galleries which operated for 18 years. She has an extensive collection of rare and important historical objects, some of which have been exhibited in museums (including the recent NGV exhibition Buddha’s Smile).
For this event, Mrs Gunn will show and discuss some 50 – 100 items including Shinto and Buddhist sacred garments as well as secular textiles from the 19th Century, including Chinese embroideries, children’s festive collars and hats, lotus shoes, official robes, official rank badges and more.
