In this special event, TAASA members will have the opportunity to visit the homes of two collectors to view selected pieces. Sandy Watson will focus on Central Asian textiles and Margaret White, East Asian examples. The group will be split two with both groups spending half the time in each house.
Sandy Watson
As a sewer and quilter, textiles meant ‘fabric ‘to Sandy. That is, until a friend introduced her to the TAASA Textile Study Group in the mid-1990s. Since then, she has learned what is truly meant by ‘textiles’. Travel in Asia led to falling in love with a huge variety of textiles. To Sandy, they bring joy and an appreciation of the traditions and dedication of those who make them.
Margaret White
Margaret lived and travelled extensively in Asia for almost 20 years. She developed a passion for Asian textiles while guiding in museums and particularly after she joined the Textile Enthusiasts Group (TEG) under the auspices of the Friends of Museums of Singapore in 2004. She served on the TEG committee and continues to give lectures in Singapore. In Sydney, she is convenor of the Textile Study Group.
