This presentation to the Textile Study Group will give an overview of the remarkable collections at the China National Silk Museum and the Biennale events 'Sources of Colours' exhibition showing naturally dyed historical Chinese silk fragments and 'Colours of Nations' symposium featuring contemporary textiles.
Alex Burchmore will introduce the work of the New York-based ceramacist Sin-ying Ho and examine the larger genre of ‘New Export China’ to which she has contributed over the past two decades.

Carole Douglas began working with Aari artisans in Gujarat almost 30 years ago. In this illustrated talk, and using actual examples, she will trace the origins of this embroidery style and offer insights into its current status both as a ‘folk' art and as a high end fashion statement.
