Goryeo Dynasty celadon bowl, 11-12th C. John Freeland collection
NOTE – This event is now booked out.
John Freeland has generously offered to guide TAASA members through his extensive Korean ceramic collection which spans early tomb ceramics from the Silla and Unified Silla periods (57 BCE – 935 CE), Goryeo celadon and black wares, early Joseon Buncheong ware and 19th century white porcelains. John has been collecting Korean pottery since the mid-1990s and came to Korean pottery as a result of collecting Australian studio pottery and Japanese pottery, when he came to the realisation of the huge debt both owe to Korean pottery.
John Freeland has collected ceramic art since the early 1990s, ran the Freeland Gallery for ceramic art in Sydney from 2006 to 2009 and has written about Australian, Japanese and Korean ceramics. He has a particular interest in cross-cultural fertilisation as it influences, and is manifest in, the ceramics of those countries.
