Meena, 'Elsewhere in India' 2024

4A.I.: ELSEWHERE IN INDIA

Tour by Thea-Mai Baumann, Artistic Director and CEO of 4A; together with artists Murthovic and Thiruda

Thea-Mai Baumann, Artistic Director and CEO of 4A, will introduce us to 4A’s
program, as well as give a floor talk on this exhibition which she has curated.
The exhibition is the culmination of a residency undertaken by artists Avinash
Kumar and Sri Rama Murthy resulting in a newly commissioned digital artwork.
Both artists will be present. The exhibition will focus on sustainable museum
practices, highlight artistic interventions with artificial intelligence by the Asian
diaspora, and seek to redefine heritage and cultural objects held in public
collections.

THEA-MAI BAUMANN; MURTHOVIC AND THIRUDA
Thea-Mai Baumann joined 4A as Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer in February 2023. An artist, creative technologist and producer of Vietnamese-Swiss heritage, Thea is the curator of this show. Between 2019-2022, she was Manager and Senior Manager of International Engagement at the Australia Council for the Arts where she co-designed and led the launch of the International Engagement Strategy 2021-25, and provided oversight of strategic investments in Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific.

Murthovic and Thiruda are pioneering Indian transmedia artists who have been at the forefront of the country’s electronic music and new media art scene for over two decades. With a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of digital storytelling and cultural preservation, they have collaborated on numerous projects that blend cutting-edge technology with traditional Indian aesthetics and narratives. Through their work as musicians, visual artists, and creative technologists, Murthovic and Thiruda have created immersive installations, performances, and experiences that have captivated audiences around the world, earning them a reputation as two of India’s most innovative and influential contemporary artists.
