Editorial

Heleanor Feltham

Welcome to the first edition of the TAASA Review. Like all good newsletters this has been a collaborative effort, and most of my work has been simple editorial growling and sheep dogging against rapidly narrowing deadlines.

It’s good to know that quite a few people other than committee members have contributed to this first issue, and our particular thanks are due to Lynette Cunnington who not only wrote a major article on Chinese glass, but has also taken on the Around the Galleries column. Thanks also to Hepburn Myrtle, one of our most respected collectors and authorities on Chinese ceramics who produced his Notes on a Temple Vase under unusual difficulties.

We would also like to thank three organizations who have made this first issue possible: the ANZ Bank for their generous financial contribution to the launching of the Society; John Spatchurst of Spatchurst Design Associates; and Paperpoint for their invaluable contribution to TAASA design and printing.

TAASA Review has three main aims:

  • To act as a forum and meeting place for our members, bringing together amateur and professional interests in a mutual love of Asian arts.
  • To present informative and scholarly articles on all areas of Asian arts, utilizing the talents not only of our own members, but also of guest writers where possible.
  • To act as an information network for TAASA events and also for books, performances, exhibitions, lectures, films and any other events that may be of interest to our members.

In order to achieve this we will need the help of all of you. The quality and range of TAASA Review will depend on your ability to write articles, send in information about events, suggest areas of special interest, let us know about new books and exhibitions, introduce us to Australian artists of Asian origin or working within Asian traditions, use our Bazaar to advertise objects for sale and items of desire, and to react positively and critically to the Review’s form, format and contents.
